Pay Range

$125,850 – $156,252 Annually

Please note that the pay range information is a general guideline only. Many factors are taken into consideration when setting starting pay including education, experience, the external labor market, and internal equity.

Job Description

We are looking for a Senior Operations Administrator to direct and oversee administrative functions in the Computing Principal Associate Directorate (PAD). You will be a key part of our team’s business operations and activities, working independently to plan, execute and/or provide oversight of a variety of hiring, operational and organizational requirements and activities, with changing variables and multiple factors that are not easily answered by standard procedures. 

You will

  • Partner with the Deputy PAD Administrator to direct, assess, and oversee program area administrators, including recruiting, hiring, training, performance management, mentoring, career development, disciplinary actions, workload coordination, collaboration with divisions and implementation of office technology systems and solutions.
  • Be a strategic partner and advisor to management on administrative, personnel and policy related activities.
  • Serve as a member of the PAD Administrative Management team using expert knowledge to lead, plan, interpret, analyze, and develop administrative, operational, and institutional policies, procedures, methods, and practices in support of the PAD and laboratory-wide initiatives.
  • Analyze and interpret human resources requirements/guidance and determine course of action to obtain optimal results. Investigate and recommend appropriate courses of action to managers and supervisors on administrative and personnel matters.
  • Lead major initiatives in the PAD and participate on institutional committees, representing the administrative unit. 
  • Directly supervise exempt and non-exempt employees to include hiring, training, coaching, mentoring, career development, disciplinary actions, performance management, coordinating work assignments, reclassifications, and participating in ranking and salary activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • This position requires an active Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance or active Top-Secret clearance issued by another U.S. government agency at the time of hire.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business-related field or equivalent combination of extensive experience and education in a related business, operational, and/or organizational area.
  • Significant leadership experience in administrative line management of personnel functions for a large, diverse organization, interpreting and applying a wide variety of personnel policies and procedures to complex situations.
  • Experience leading/supervising employees and team building skills. Ability to take initiative and build productive relationships.
  • In-depth knowledge and understanding of recruiting, hiring, performance management and staff relations practices and comprehensive knowledge and understanding of HR compliance requirements for hiring (FLSA, ADA, EEO, etc.) and extensive experience interpreting and applying a wide variety of policies and procedures to unique situations.
  • Experience leading and supervising business, operational and organizational activities.
  • Advanced administrative and organizational skills, including strong detail orientation, flexibility and experience independently coordinating and prioritizing multiple and complex work activities, often with conflicting deadlines. Ability to work effectively with short deadlines and frequent interruptions.
  • Advanced interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills necessary to handle sensitive and confidential issues with tact, discretion, and mature judgment to interact with a diverse group of personalities and disciplines at all levels internal and external to the Laboratory.
  • Advanced analytical skills as well as the ability to anticipate, identify, and resolve complex problems in a rapidly changing environment, using a high degree of mature judgment, discretion, and tact.
  • Strong background in identifying and implementing technology solutions to automate administrative processes using a variety of software packages and database approaches. Expert use of MS Office applications.

Desired Qualifications

  • Knowledge of LLNL business applications and processes such as LAPIS, SMARTRECRUITERS, CAT, LEAP, TIME, VTS, FTS and/or LTRAIN
  • Knowledge and understanding of Computing’s processes and procedures
