Science on Saturday travels to Hayward

Lab scientist Christopher Ebbers will present "Communicating at the Speed of Light," on Saturday, April 25, at 10 a.m. at CSU East Bay, 25800 Carlos Bee Blvd., Hayward.  The lecture is part of the Lab's popular Science on Saturday series, geared for middle- and high school-students.

Ebbers will discuss how the tremendous increase in the speed of information transfer takes place due to the merging of two sciences: optical physics and materials science and will explore the developments in these two branches of science that have merged at this historic moment.

Admission to the lecture is free. Seating is on a first-come basis. Seating is limited.

Energy innovator to discuss 'Oil Solutions'

Physicist Amory Lovins, cofounder, chairman and chief scientist of the Rocky Mountain Institute, an independent, entrepreneurial, nonprofit, think-and-do tank, will present "Oil Solutions," on Thursday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m. at the Bankhead Theater, 2400 First St., Livermore.

Amory advises governments and major firms worldwide on advanced energy and resource efficiency, and has led the technical redesign of more than $30 billion worth of facilities to achieve huge energy savings at typically lower capital cost. There will be a question-and-answer period following the talk.
