Shingleton named president–elect of the AAHP

Kathleen Shingleton of the Hazards Control Department has been elected president–elect of the American Academy of Health Physics (AAHP). The AAHP is the professional organization for certified health physicists and administers the health physics certification process through the American Board of Health Physics. Shingleton will serve as president–elect for one year, beginning January 2010, after which she will serve as president for a year.

Shingleton is a manager in the Hazards Control Department, working with the Radiological Control manager to ensure the Laboratory maintains a comprehensive radiation protection program to meet the Lab’s mission needs. She has been part of the health physics program for 30 years, holding a variety of applied and management positions. Since the early 1980s, Shingleton also has provided support to DOE/LLNL’s emergency response programs, including the Radiological Assistance Program, the Nuclear Emergency Search Team and the Accident Response Group.

In addition to her work at the Laboratory, Shingleton has served on the Board of Directors of the Health Physics Society, as secretary of the American Academy of Health Physics and on the American Board of Health Physics panel of examiners for 10 years. Last year, Shingleton was named a fellow of the Health Physics Society.
