online . This issue's feature story "A Faster and Cheaper Method to Detect Agents of Disease" describes a new Livermore technology that combines clever algorithms and a tiny microarray to identify thousands of pathogens within 24 hours. A highlight reports how the installation of a fiber draw tower at the Laboratory allows scientists to fabricate fiber lasers and amplifiers with extremely high powers and energies. A second highlight features the concluding 20-year "Megatons to Megawatts Program," a joint effort that has successfully converted Russian nuclear weapon-grade uranium into U.S. nuclear reactor fuel. A final highlight reports on the 100th shot fired on the two-stage gas gun at the Joint Actinide Shock Physics Experimental Research (JASPER) Facility in support of stockpile stewardship.
