Media advisory:Lab’s ‘Science on Saturday’ lecture: Examining the path to a clean energy future

WHO:

Ed Moses, project manager and principal deputy associate director of the National Ignition Facility (NIF) will present, "Star Power on Earth: The Path to a Limitless Clean Energy Future."

WHAT:

The National Ignition Facility, the world largest, most energetic laser, is nearly complete and is getting ready to focus its192 giant laser beams on a tiny target filled with hydrogen. The goal is to replicate the conditions inside a star and create, at a small size, the life-giving energy from the sun. This process is fundamental to the vision of developing limitless, clean, carbon-free, safe and environmentally friendly energy to meet the world's increased energy. In this talk, NIF Director Ed Moses will explain how the giant laser works and how it is paving the way to a limitless supply of clean, safe energy.
