Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has achieved Glassdoor’s OpenCompany status, a distinct profile badge that recognizes companies that emphasize transparency in the workplace between employer and employee.
Glassdoor, a website like Yelp, but for employers, is a leading destination for job seekers to research a variety of companies and decide if they want to work there.
In 2014, Glassdoor launched the OpenCompany program. To qualify for the honor, the Laboratory had to meet certain requirements and complete five steps designed to help provide an accurate depiction of the culture and workplace. With this acknowledgement, LLNL has shown it values relationships with current and prospective employees by encouraging reviews and feedback to improve the workplace.
The Laboratory has been proactive in reaching out to employees and encouraging them to submit a review on Glassdoor, and hopes to keep increasing the number of reviews. The more reviews LLNL has, the more the Lab can create a picture of working here for prospective employees.
On its Glassdoor profile, the Laboratory has achieved an impressive 4.4 out of 5 stars on the overall company rating and a 97 percent CEO approval rating of Laboratory Director Bill Goldstein. In addition, 94 percent of reviewers would recommend working at the Laboratory to a friend.
With a staff exceeding 6,500 employees, which includes a diverse population of those working as scientists and engineers, facilities and operations personnel and administrative and support staff, the Laboratory is looking to fill more than 200 job openings currently posted online. The Glassdoor site is utilized as a recruiting tool to post current openings and is a way for employees to provide feedback on what is working and what they would like to see moving forward.
“We are proud to have reached this milestone being named an OpenCompany with Glassdoor, and are committed to being a transparent workplace,” said Randy Pico, technical recruiter for Engineering at LLNL. “We pursued this status so we could share the Laboratory’s culture of diversity and inclusion with prospective employees, while also providing an important vehicle for current employees to review LLNL as a workplace. Open, honest reviews help our leadership team stay on course to ensure that we stay true to our mission and values.”
