Judith (Spalding) Riley

Judith Spalding Riley, of Vernonia, Oregon, died June 4. She was 76.

Riley was born Feb. 18, 1941, in Lake City, Iowa. She was raised and received her education in the Farnhamville, Iowa area, having been a graduate of Farnhamville High School class of 1959.

She married Joseph Edward "Joe" Riley on Oct. 8, 1966, in Tucson, Arizona. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this past October. Following their marriage, they made their home in Tucson for nine months, until moving to El Paso, Texas. They lived in El Paso until 1969 when they moved to Livermore. They lived in Livermore for four years, where Riley worked as a clerical worker for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. In July 1973, they moved to Oregon, settling in the Vernonia community, where they have resided since.

In Oregon, Riley worked for Westland Trailer Company and Texaco in Portland for several years, until she retired.

She was raised in the Episcopal faith and was a member of the Sweet Adelines Women's Chorus Singers, West Hills Chapter in Portland, Oregon. She enjoyed music, reading and caring for her American Eskimo Dog, "Missy".

Riley was preceded in death by her parents, Orin F. Spalding and Margaret Hardy Spalding.

She is survived by her husband, Joe Riley, of Vernonia, Oregon; two sons and daughter-in-law, James E. "Jim" Lemon, of Santa Barbara, California, and Joseph P. "Joe" and Leslie Riley, of Bothel, Washington; a sister and brother-in-law, Jacqui and Angel Lopez, of Costa Mesa, California; three grandchildren, Jenna Paige Riley, Caelan Claire Riley and Adam Y. Belbachir; and several nieces and nephews.

A service was recently held at Barlow Funeral Home, with burial in St. Michael Cemetery in Fairfield.
