Charles Henry Otto, Jr.

Charles Henry Otto, Jr. died July 25. He was 87.

Otto was born to Charles and Dolly Otto in Mankato, Minnesota on July 19, 1935. He grew up in Mankato, Minnesota and at the age of 17, he met the love of his life, Barbara, while working together at Stan A. Smith's Jewelers. Shortly before their marriage, he entered the U.S. Army. Directly after their nuptials, he was stationed and proudly served his beloved country in Germany. Upon returning to the United States, he attended Mankato State University and received a bachelor of science degree with a double major in chemistry and math. After the birth of three of their four children, they moved to California after he accepted a job offer at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, where he worked as an analytical chemist for 35 years.

He is survived by his wife Barbara, daughter Esther (Mike), son Brad (Jenny), and daughter Cathy (Ralph), six grandchildren, two great grandchildren, and sister Patricia. He is preceded in death by his son Jeff, father Charles, mother Dolly, sister Barbara, brother John, and brother Jim.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, Aug. 19 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, Livermore, followed by burial at St. Michael Cemetery. Following burial, a celebration of life luncheon will be held at The Clubhouse at Las Positas (Beeb's Clubhouse) at the Las Positas Golf Course.
