Basil Smith

Basil Lewis Smith died Feb. 15. He was 87.

Smith was born at home in Porth, Glamorgan, Wales to Evan Lewis Smith and Priscilla Jane Lewis. He grew up in London during World War II and served in the British Army in Malaysia. He immigrated to the United States and married Cornelia Ann Mayers. They raised a family of four children in the Las Vegas area while Smith worked for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory at the Nevada National Security Site.

His passions were his family, his faith and photography. An avid reader, he was known as a scripture scholar and as a world history buff. Smith is survived by his four children; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

Viewing will be from 9:30-10:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 25, with funeral services following at 11 a.m. at the Latter-Day Saints Church, 221 Lorenzi St., Las Vegas, Nevada 89107. Burial will follow at the Boulder City Cemetery, 501 Adams Blvd. Boulder City, Nevada 89005.
