William Edward Loewe

William Edward Loewe died Nov. 26. He was 91. 

Loewe was born in Chicago, Illinois to William Edward Loewe and Gertrude Althea Loewe, née Smith. He attended Carl Schurz High School. He later graduated from the University of Chicago with a bachelor of arts, the University of Illinois with a bachelor of science, and Illinois Institute of Technology with a doctor of philosophy.

His career began as a physicist at the DuPont Savannah River Plant in North Augusta, South Carolina. He then worked at IIT Research Institute in Chicago before arriving at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, retiring on Dec. 31, 1990. His fields of specialization included reactor physics, nuclear design, and neutron transport.

He is survived by his wife Audrey Virginia Loewe, his daughters Nancy Jean Becker and Mary Ellen Miller (Matthias), son William Edward Loewe (Nadia), and granddaughter Isabella Jolie Miller.
