William D. Schultz

William D. (Bill) Schulz died after suffering a stroke Oct. 9.  He was 87. 

Born in Brooklyn, NY, Oct. 4, 1925, he was raised in Long Island. After a brief stint in the Army during World War II, he attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and then obtained a Ph.D. in physics from Columbia University.

He moved to Berkeley, Calif. and began working at LLNL where his career spanned 27 years working in the Nuclear Design Department in Lagrangian hydrodynamics.

An avid tennis player, Schulz met his wife Diane on the UC Berkeley tennis courts, and within a year, they were married.

Schulz is survived by his wife of 51 years, Diane; and his children, Christopher, Bruce and wife, Hakima, and Elizabeth; as well as his two grandchildren, Jasmin and Alexander.

Friends and former colleagues are invited to attend a memorial service, at 4 p.m. Nov. 18 at the UC Berkeley Men’s Faculty Club, Seaborg Room. Casual attire requested.  If possible, RSVP to dianeschulz [at] yahoo.com (Diane Schulz).
