William Burtenhouse

Lab retiree William C. Burtenhouse of Apache Junction, Ariz. died after a battle with pneumonia. He was 86.

A former resident of Livermore, he was born in Oklahoma on Oct. 26, 1924. Burtenhouse served in the Navy during World War II.

He was the husband of the late Shirley Burtenhouse, who died June 14, 2010.

He was a carpenter by trade prior to his employment at the Lab. He enjoyed a good game of shuffleboard, playing cards or just about anything competitive. He liked socializing with his friends at the VFW lodge, as well as the American Legion and Eagles Clubs, and listening to country music.

After his retirement from the Lab, he moved to Oregon, where he and his wife had a thriving restaurant business before moving to Apache Junction.

He is survived by his children, Dennis A. Burtenhouse and his wife Norma Burtenhouse of Dairy, Ore.; Dianna Scheiner and her husband James Scheiner of Weed, Calif.; grandchildren, Dennis C. Burtenhouse and his wife Kaycie Burtenhouse; Tiffany Jones and her husband Roy Jones; as well as three great-grandchildren, Kylie Burtenhouse, Tristan Jones and Kayden Jones.

He also is survived by his late wife's children, Brad Charbonneau and his wife Patti Charbonneau, Craig Charbonneau; four grandchildren, Kyle Charbonneau, Justin Charbonneau, Eve Charbonneau, Joy Charbonneau; and one great-grandchild.
