Warren L. Owings

Lab retiree Warren L. Owings died Jan. 2 in Lodi, Calif. He was 89.

Born April 3, 1922, in St. Joseph Mo., Owings graduated from high school in Portland, Ore. in 1941. He then served in the Navy until 1947. He served on the USS Lamberton and the USS Cassin then joined the Coast Guard.

He attended Eugene Oregon Vocational School. After graduation, he worked at the Lab from 1957-1991. While working at LLNL, he was a member of the team that worked on the Apollo Soyuz project that is now displayed at the Smithsonian Air and Space Museum in Washington, DC.

He was an Eagle Scout and worked with the Sacramento council as a district representative for the Boy Scouts of America and was very proud that his son, Jesse Lawson, also obtained Eagle Scout status.

Owings enjoyed hunting, fishing, dancing and spending time with family.

He is survived by his wife of 30 years, Annette Owings; his children, Michael Owings, Kathy Ahre, Debby Lawson, Maxine Lawson, Jesse Lawson; five grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

He will be buried at the Holy Sepulchre Cemetery in Hayward, Calif.
