Virgil F. Gregory

Virgil F. Gregory, a longtime Livermore resident, died Sept. 10. He was 81.

Born Aug. 29, 1928, in Nebraska to Floyd and Orpha Gregory, he moved to Salem, Ore. at the age of 11.

He married his wife, Hazel Gregory, in 1951 in El Paso, Texas.

He served in the U.S. Army from 1951–1956. Upon completion of his service, he earned a technical education. He worked at the Lab from 1957 until his retirement in 1990.

He was an avid hunter and hobbyist who enjoyed working with clocks and automobiles. He loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.

Gregory is survived by his daughter and son-in-law Lauren Marchese and Peter Street of Texas; son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Vicki Gregory of Ohio; daughter LeAnn Gregory of Livermore; and son Kurt Gregory of Livermore; grandchildren Zachary, Ashley, Hayden and Athan Gregory of Ohio; sister and brother-in-law Dorlene and Bob Cuningham of Oregon; sister-in-law Inez Dodge of Oregon; sister-in-law Norma Gregory of Oregon; longtime friends Max and Jerri Blair of Oregon; Dave Dixon of Livermore; Ken and Helen Miller of Livermore, numerous nephews and nieces; and many other family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel; daughter Viette Gregory; parents, Floyd and Orpha Gregory; and two brothers, Al and Gordon Gregory.

Services were held in Livermore. Donations may be made to a favorite charity in Gregory’s name.
