Thomas E. Riley Sr.

Lab retiree Thomas E. Riley Sr., a resident of Concord, died Sept. 12 at his home in Concord, Calif.

Born in St. Louis, Mo., he was one of four children born to Thomas Riley and Eleonora Plank.

He lived most of his life in Concord, with his wife of 67 years, Dorothy May (Hiatt) Riley.

He served as a Merchant Marine during World War II.  He was a 50-year member of Diablo Valley Masonic Lodge, Oakland Scottish Rite and Aahmes Shrine in Livermore.

Riley’s professional career was in electrical construction. He was a member and past president of IBEW Local No. 302. He worked on such projects as BART, the Caldicott Tunnel, Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant and many others.

He completed his work career when he retired from the Lab in 1998.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; sisters, Margaret and Ruth; children, Thomas, Laura, Timothy and Diane; six grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and cat, "Smoke."

Riley will be remembered in a memorial service at 2 p.m. on Sept. 29, at the Odd Fellows Hall, 4349 Cowell Road, Concord.
