Bennett was born June 2, 1936 in Los Angeles. She earned her bachelor's degree in geography/cartography at UCLA. Bennett loved to travel. In 1982 she married Ernest (Ernie) Bennett and they had five children. Bennett and her husband loved to travel. They took many trips together, including places such as Russia, China and Europe. They loved spending as much time as possible up in their cabin at Lake Pillsbury, aptly named Shangri-La. Bridge was a lifelong hobby for them and they played with several groups of friends often. Bennett continued to play three times a week after her husband passed away in 2009.
