Stephen Petz

Stephen Petz, a resident of Manteca, died Aug. 5.  He was 64. 

Born May 21, 1948, in Stockton, Calif., he lived in Manteca for 20 years, but previously resided in Tracy. 

At Tracy High School, he played football and was undefeated as a wrestler. He graduated in 1966 and joined the U.S. Marine Corps, serving from 1968 to 1972.

He worked at LLNL during the 1980s and 1990s in the Beam Research Program as a mechanical technician and later as a technical coordinator. He was a rancher before retiring.

He was an avid hunter and an outdoorsman and enjoyed playing golf, spending time with family and friends, and barbecuing. 

He is survived by his wife, Laura Petz of Manteca; four children, Desiree Klein and her husband, Joshua, of Manteca, Holly Green and her husband, Ricardo of Lathrop, Stephen Petz and his wife, MaryEllen of Las Vegas and Michelle Petz of Idaho; three siblings, Susan Piper and her husband, Ernest of Coalinga, Stanley Petz and his wife, Kathy of Manteca and Sandra Solano and her husband, Rob of Yreka; and a grandson.

Services will be held today (Aug. 15) at 10:30 a.m. at  Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., Tracy. Burial will follow in Tracy Cemetery, 501 W. Schulte Road.
