Stephen C. Herrick

Stephen C. Herrick, a Lab retiree, died March 31 in Laramie, Wyo. He was 67.

Born Jan. 10, 1945, in Buffalo, N.Y., he was the son of Robert E. and Shirley (Smith) Herrick.

In 1959, he moved with his family to San Jose, Calif., where he met Venancia “Bennie” Lopez. They were married May 30, 1964, in San Jose.

The family moved to Livermore in 1969, and then to Brentwood, Calif., in 1979. Herrick worked as a technical writer at the Laboratory, retiring after 37 years. He also served on the Byron planning commission.

While in California, he was a communications specialist for 27 years and a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, serving as a financial clerk for 17 years. He volunteered with youth programs, including scouting for more than 29 years and served as a merit badge leader. 

Herrick and his wife moved to Laramie in June of 2011 to be near his son and his family.

He was preceded in death by his daughter Barbara Jean; two brothers, Gregory and Michael; and his sister Mary Ann.

He is survived by his wife, Venancia “Bennie” Herrick; his son, Philip Matthew Herrick; his daughter, Alice Magdalene Peralta, all of Laramie; two brothers, Tim Herrick of Fresno, Calif., and David Herrick of Carson City, Nev.; three sisters, Susan Chames, Joan Chaban and Janet LeMieu, all of Carson City, Nev. He also is survived by five grandchildren.

Visitation will be April 6 at 9 a.m. Funeral services will be held April 6 at 10:30 a.m. at the Baker Street LDS Chapel in Laramie. Cremation will follow.
