Stanley James Ekstrom

Stanley James Ekstrom of Woodland, Calif. died Jan. 11. He was 95.

Ekstrom led an exciting life. He served in the Army in World War II, spent three years living in Bahrain and lived a post-retirement life in Incline Village and Reno, Nev. and Tucson, Ariz. He took several vacations to Maui and Europe and spent his final months in Yolo County, Calif.

Ekstrom was a mechanical engineer. He worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 20 years before he retired. Ekstrom was also an amateur photographer, painter and poet. After his retirement in 1983 he learned CAD and started a business drawing house plans for homeowners in the Lake Tahoe area. Ekstrom was known as a loving, generous and thoughtful man who placed great importance on his family and their welfare. A hallmark of his later life was the wonderful family vacations he sponsored in Lake Tahoe and Sun Valley, Idaho.

Ekstrom is predeceased by his first wife, Ruth Ekstrom, who died in 1992 and stepdaughter Leslie Cochran. He is survived by his wife (married in 1997), Florence Ekstrom; children Connie (Bill) Kelly, Steve (Susan) Ekstrom, Pam (George) Viebeck and Greg (Patty) Ekstrom; grandchildren Dawn Taloyo, Aaron Kelly, Joanna Ekstrom, Elise Viebeck, Caroline Ekstrom, Sonya Ekstrom, Lizzi Ekstrom, Philip Viebeck, David Ekstrom and Michael Viebeck; great grandchildren Alex and Sage Taloyo; stepdaughter Nicki (Ken) Lura, and numerous step-grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Private memorial services for family will be held in Davis, Calif., and at Lake Tahoe.
