Sherry Anne Emmons

Sherry Anne Emmons died on June 18, her 55th birthday, at her home in Tracy after a long illness and complications from surgery.

Born June 18, 1957, in Detroit, Mich., she moved to San Leandro, Calif., with her mother and brother in 1969. She married her husband, Larry Emmons, in 1987. As avid motorcyclists, they often traveled throughout the Central Valley and to farther destinations such as the Pacific Coast. Emmons enjoyed games, including card games and dominos, and trips to casinos.

Emmons started work at the Lab as a Bechtel contract employee in 1991 and became a permanent Lab employee in 1997. In her years at the Lab, she was a compositor/graphic specialist associated with WCI, NIF and ES&H programs. Her breadth of skills was very useful in programs requiring high output, consistency of presentation and interactions with many authors, editors and publications and web specialists over multiple drafts and with tight deadlines. She was known for her cheerful disposition, helpfulness, attention to detail and teamwork. She won many awards for her work.

Emmons loved animals and helped rescue feral and abandoned cats and dogs. She took care of many strays that somehow knew where to find her, adopted animals that had been rescued and found homes for cats that she found abandoned in the open areas by her home.

She is survived by her husband, Larry Emmons; her parents, Beverly Chamberlain and Gerald Stewart; her step-mother, Connie Stewart; and her older brother, Jim Stewart. A celebration of life will be held at a date to be determined. Donations may be made in Emmons' name to FCF (Feral Cat Foundation), P.O. Box 1173, Alamo, CA 94507, or Tracy Animal Shelter, 370 W Arbor Ave, Tracy, CA 95304.
