Sharon Snowden

Lab retiree Sharon Snowden of Livermore died Dec. 16.

Born in Detroit, she lived in Michigan until her early teens, when her family moved first to New Jersey, then to Buenos Aires, and finally to Cordoba, Argentina.

She graduated from high school in Argentina, and then explored her college options in Miami, Tucson, Hayward and Berkeley.

An avid sports lover, Snowden became a member of the Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) and worked at Skywest Golf Course as the assistant pro.

She worked as a supervisor at General Electric (GE) In Dublin. After leaving GE, she joined the Lab where she worked in the area of particle acceleration and supervising vault operations. She worked at the Lab for 28 years, retiring in 2001.

Snowden was a person of many interests. Nothing pleased her more than good books, good food, and intelligent conversation with good people. She enjoyed classical music, '40s music, camping, crossword puzzles, watching sports of all kinds, camping, dabbling in cooking and spy novels. One of her favorite camping spots was Arizona Beach on the Oregon coast.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother Chuck.

She is survived by her nephew, Charlie, his wife, and their six children: her friend Joyce Valentine; and many other friends.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 27, at Callaghan's Mortuary, 3833 East Ave., Livermore.
