Sam Chakires

Sam Chakires died Dec. 25. He was 93.

Chakires was born in 1930 to Christopher and Matina Chakires. He attended Fifth Street School and graduated from Livermore High School in 1948. After graduation, he worked in the carpentry field and helped build a few houses and complexes throughout Livermore. For a short time, he owned and operated Livermore Motor Sales, a used car lot downtown. He had a long career at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory as a mechanical technician in the weapons division and retired in 1988.

He is survived by Doris, his wife of nearly 60 years, son Chris Chakires (Holly), daughter Annalisa Anderson (Brent), and granddaughters Samantha and Sophia. He also leaves behind several in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother Kyriakos Chakires, and sisters Mary Fotos and Julia Lembesis.
