Roy Walter Wyant

Roy Walter Wyant died April 23 of complications from congestive heart failure.

Born in November 1932 in Leechburg, Penn., to Nelson E. and Pearl G. Wyant, the family lived in Ohio and New York before moving to Wapato, Wash. in 1947.

In the late 1950s, he worked at LLNL. In the early 1960s, he moved his family to Atascadero, Calif. to build homes with his father, establishing Wyant & Wyant Construction.

Wyant enjoyed family vacations in Oregon every summer, camping and attending family reunions in Cascadia State Park, tinkering in his shop, gardening, and searching for rare treasures at local garage sales. He also enjoyed morning coffee with neighbor and friend of 52 years, Len Gibaut and lunches with Dave and Janet Grummitt.

Wyant is survived by his wife of 59 years, Lucy; his children, Sandra Champion of Hope, Ark; daughter in-law Linda Wyant of Atascadero, Calif.; Rick and Barb Wyant of LaPine, Ore; Carolyn and Robert McBurney of Orcutt, Calif.; JoAnn and Brian Forzetting of Coalinga, Calif.; and John and Laurie Wyant of Lebanon, Ore.

In addition, he is survived by his siblings, Ginger Weisel of Clovis, Calif.; David Wyant of Clovis, Calif.; Naomi and John Ferrell of Grants Pass, Ore.; Jan and Carl Brown of Hesperia, Calif.; and Gary and Debbie Wyant of Madera, Calif.; his uncle, Bob and aunt, Anna Rearick of Carson, Calif.; cousin, Leonard Riggle and wife, Gloria of Chico, Calif.; and sister-in-law, Marilyn Middleton and her husband, Jackie of Madras, Ore.; 19 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Wyant was preceded in death by daughter Beverly in 1959; sister Hazel Ann in 1967; grandson Casey in 1995; father Nelson in 1999; brother-in-law Ed Currier, Sr., in 2002, mother Pearl in 2005; and son Donnie in 2008.

Services were held April 28, at the Chapel of the Roses in Atascadero, Calif.
