Rose Marie “Cookie” Sefcik

Rose Marie “Cookie” Sefcik died Feb. 12. She was 68.

Sefcik was born in Patterson, California on Nov. 26, 1955, to Miguel and Lucy Granillo and lived in Vernalis where she attended Rising Sun School. She attended Patterson High school and graduated from Tracy High School in 1973. While a student at Tracy High School, she joined Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) as a student intern. Her career at LLNL spanned 43 years. She initially worked for the travel department and subsequently joined the weapons engineering division. In the late 1970s she moved to Z division and became the first administrator for thex newly established nuclear emergency search team. She continued her career as an administrative assistant in the laser directorate office, acting administrator for the biomedical directorate, administrative assistant for the NDE group in engineering, and as an administrative assistant and training coordinator for the physical and life sciences directorate. She retired in 2015.

She is survived by her mother, Lucy Granillo, her husband Joseph A. Sefcik of Tracy, her daughter Danielle Rose Sefcik of Kingwood, Texas, and her son Joseph David (Lauryn) Sefcik of Livermore and their children Jordan Joseph Sefcik and Elle Rose Sefcik. She was preceded in death by her father Miguel Valencia Granillo.
