Robert Myers

Robert C. Myers, a former resident of Livermore and Lab retiree, died Feb. 14. He was 88.

Born May 19, 1921, in Junction City, Kan., he was the son of Edgar and Bessie Myers. He graduated with honors from Kansas State College in 1943 with a degree in mechanical engineering. He had been a member of the ROTC program for two years.

Myers worked for Western Electric in New Jersey two summers prior to enlisting in the U.S. Army in 1944. In April 1945, the Army sent him with the Special Engineering Detachment to Los Alamos, N.M.

In addition, he worked at Eastman Kodak, Minneapolis Honeywell, Boeing, Lockheed and Stanford Research Engineering. In 1956, returned to work in weapons research for LLNL. He retired to his new home in Oregon on the Pacific Ocean in 1981 and returned to Livermore in 1983 before moving to Green Valley, Ariz., in 2003.

During retirement, he was a consultant for various companies working in weapons development and precision explosive oil drilling.

As a young boy, he learned photography from some of the old-time photographers in Junction City, Kan. As a professional photographer, he had many of his photographs published worldwide.

He was asked in 2002 to document the demolition and rebuilding of Ruby Hill, a historic winery in Livermore.

Myers is survived by his wife of 64 years, Wilma; a sister, Pat Potter of Kansas; two sons, David of Sahuarita, Ariz., and Jeffry of Hawaii; and three grandchildren, Abraham of Santa Clara, Calif., Beth Anne of Bellflower, Calif., and Jennifer Hall of Green Valley, Ariz.
