Robert Anthony da Roza

Robert Anthony da Roza, who worked at the Lab as a research scientist for 40 years, died Aug. 8. He was 82.

Born in Sacramento to Ina and Wilbert da Roza, he was a graduate of Sacramento State University. He received his master’s degree from UC Berkeley.

He worked at LLNL in nuclear chemistry, Z Division and Hazards Control in respiratory protection.

He was chair of the national committee that rewrote the ANSI standards for respiratory protection and he published and presented papers on his work internationally.

He married Lora Cate in 1952 and they were married until her death in 1982.

Da Roza is survived by his daughter, Catie da Roza-Wiersma; son, Donald; five grandchildren; and sister, Delores Pierce.

He also is survived by his wife, Victoria, whom he married in 1983; and step daughter, Sarah Hawkins.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 21, at 2 p.m. at the San Ramon Valley United Methodist Church in Alamo. Donations can be made to the MS Society with preference for research on primary progressive MS.
