Richard P. Johnson

Lab retiree Richard P. Johnson died June 11. He was 71.

Born and raised in the Sacramento area, Johnson graduated from McClatchy High School, Sacramento City College and California State University, Sacramento. He also attended graduate school at Santa Clara University.

He and his family lived in Livermore for 26 years while he worked at the Lab as a computer scientist. Several years after retirement, he moved to Roseville, Calif. where he lived for nine years.

Johnson loved to golf, read, play the violin and travel the world with his wife and friends. He was a past president of the Livermore-Yotsakaido Sister City Organization and participated in the Ohlone Chamber Orchestra.

He is survived his wife, Shirley, his children Julie Johnson and Pam O'Quin, grandchildren, Hope and Nicholas O'Quin, brothers, Bob Johnson and Pat Johnson, and many nieces, nephews and close in-laws.

A celebration of life will be held at 1 p.m. June 26 at Granite Bay Golf Club, 9600 Golf Club Drive, Granite Bay, Calif. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Lung Cancer Research.
