Richard Lee Stark

Richard Lee Stark, a longtime Livermore resident and Lab retiree, died Apr. 23. He was 77.

Born Jan. 7, 1934, he moved from Sweet Home, Ore., to Livermore in 1957. He graduated from Oregon Technical Institute. He retired from the Lab after 39 years.

Stark was a member of the Tri-Valley Church of Christ. He and his family traveled more than 400,000 miles in the United States and Canada. He loved camping, motorcycle riding, hiking, backpacking, nature and photography. He also enjoyed fixing cars.

Stark is survived by his wife of four months, Jo Ann (Byrne-Laird) Stark of Livermore; children, Susan St. John of Mississippi, Douglas Stark of Colorado and Wesley Stark of Livermore; his sisters, Lorraine Wright of Sweet Home, Ore., Nola Cook of Arizona, Donna Francis of Salem, Ore.; seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as numerous other family members.

Stark is preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Ruth, in 2008.

A visitation for friends and family will be held today (April 28) from noon to 1 p.m. with a funeral service at 1 p.m. at the Callaghan Mortuary, 3833 East Ave., Livermore. Stark will be laid to rest with Ruth, at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 3873 East Ave., Livermore.
