Richard Allen Palmer

Richard Allen Palmer, a Laboratory retiree, died Jan. 22. He was 69.

Palmer was born Nov. 5, 1943, in Indiana and grew up in Illinois. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he learned electronic engineering, which he then taught on Treasure Island until his honorable discharge.

Palmer fell in love with California. He worked for Lawrence Livermore National Lab and retired after 32 years of service. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, golfer and he loved animals. He contributed to the local Humane Society.

He is preceded in death by his sister, Janise Goldwater and father, Carlton Palmer Jr. He is survived by his 97-year old mother, Leona Palmer; his companion of the past 12 years, Gayle Miller; nephew, Rodney Canavan; his daughter, Zia; Zia's mother, Kimberly; and step sister, Sienna.

Private services were held at Memory Gardens at the Palmer family plot.
