Raymond W. Schwarz

Raymond "Ray" W. Schwarz of Hayward died Jan. 15. He was 76.

Schwarz was born Oct. 21, 1937 and was a native of Philadelphia, Pa. He received a bachelor's degree in physics in 1962 from UC Berkeley. He worked as a computer programmer for 16 years at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory.

Schwarz had many interests, including science, math, classical music, programming and using computers, languages, performing arts and playing bridge. He proudly attained the rank of Life Master with the American Contract Bridge League in 1979.

Schwarz is predeceased by his first wife, Jean E. (Mauer) Schwarz; parents, Winfrid and Jane Schwarz; and second wife, Barbara (Chapin) Schwarz.

Schwarz is survived by his companion of 17 years, Antonia Grijalva; children, Barbara Gilbert and Kenneth Raymond Schwarz; sister, Ann Donahue and Jessica Rose; brother, Joseph Schwarz; nephew, John Donahue; and numerous cousins in Germany and in the Philadelphia area.

The family thanks Hayward Kaiser Hospice and many other volunteers for providing Schwarz with loving care during his battle with cancer.
