Olivette Chinn

Olivette Chinn, a Lab retiree who served as a secretary to two Lab directors, Edward Teller and Michael May, died March 20. She was 94.

A resident of Livermore, Chinn was born Sept 5, 1914, in Wichita, Kan. to Francis and Margaret Johnston. She worked at LLNL for 39 years.

Chinn volunteered more than 17,000 hours at Valley Care Health Systems. She crocheted hundreds of prayer shawls for the First Presbyterian Church Ministry with a special group of women. She enjoyed her hobbies of fostering rescue dogs and painting and quilting. She was a pilot and the first female automobile dealer in Kansas. She was a member of the Livermore Amador Genealogical Society, Amador Valley Quilters, the International Association of Administrative Professionals and a member of the First Presbyterian Church, Livermore.

She is survived by her sister, Mayme Allen of Florida, and her children, James Corzine III, of Washington; Corrine Shutt of Colorado, Phillip Corzine of California and Jack Chinn of Texas; 15 grandchildren; and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands James Corzine, in 1947, and Jack Chinn, in 1967; and grandson, Evan Corzine.

A memorial service was held March 24 in Livermore. Donations may be made in Chinn’s name to the Hope Hospice, 6500 Dublin Blvd., Suite 100, Dublin, CA 94568 or to the American Cancer Society.
