Melvin Sterling Coops

Melvin Sterling Coops died May 1, in Santa Rosa, Calif. He was 83.

Coops was born in Sonoma, Calif. and graduated from Sonoma High School. He later attended Santa Rosa Junior College and graduated from UC Berkeley as a nuclear chemist.

He worked for more than 40 years at the Lab in nuclear research. After retirement, he returned to Sonoma County and resided in Santa Rosa.

He was preceded in death by his siblings, Betty Coops James and Arthur Irving Coops.

He was the uncle of Robert Hammond of Goldendale, Wash., Cindy Subia of Vale, Ariz., Melinda Spring of Lusby, Md., Dinah Coops Havas of Seattle, Wash., Alison Ludwig of Glen Allen, Va., Dan Coops of Austin, Texas, and was the brother-in-law of Shirley Coops of Kenwood, Calif.

At the request of Coops, there will be no services. Private inurnment will be at Mountain Cemetery, Sonoma, Calif.
