Mark V. Caress

Mark V. Caress, a resident of Livermore who worked in the Lab’s Security Escorts Office as the field supervisor, died July 22. He was 54.

Born July 29, 1955, he began his career at LLNL in 1985 as an officer in the Protective Force Division. He was promoted to operations sergeant in 1991. In 2002, he accepted a position in the Security Escorts Office, where he was working at the time of his death.

Caress started umpiring with the Granada Little League in 1999 when his grandson played in the minor division. Even though his grandson was done participating in the league, Caress continued as an umpire. He was highly regarded in the league and throughout District 57. He umpired numerous post-season tournaments and was a district umpire instructor. He instructed at many rules and mechanics clinics throughout District 57 over the past several years. He was a dedicated and respected volunteer.

He is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mary. He also is survived by his children, Michael and Tawny, and his step-children Mark and Nick (Ellen) Perjanik and his grandchildren, Stephen, Anthony, Joey, Laura and Sherul.

There will be a celebration of Caress’ life on Aug. 8 at the Granada Little League fields, 1300 Murdell Lane (Max Bear Park) at 11 a.m. There will be a barbeque lunch to follow.
