Mark Leonard Shaw

Mark Leonard Shaw, a resident of Livermore, died Jan. 27 after a battle with Parkinson's disease and Lewy body dementia. He was 66.

Born Dec. 18, 1946, Shaw served in the U.S. Navy for 23 years starting as an enlisted sailor and then becoming a commissioned line officer retiring with the rank of lieutenant commander. He served in Vietnam on the USS Kitty Hawk and as a Navy SEAL in SEAL Team 1.

He subsequently served as a physicist stationed at Lockheed Martin in Sunnyvale and at LLNL. His military career was followed by co-ownership of an underwater construction dive company, a military protective gear company and as a consultant and B Division employee at the Lab.

He served for many years as assistant scout master for St. Michael's Boy Scout Troop 903.

Shaw was preceded in death by his mother, Jean Shaw; his father, Walter Shaw; and his daughter, Sandra Walker. He is survived by his son, Griffin Shaw of Livermore and Maureen Alai; his daughter, Jessica Hendershot of North Carolina and Thelma Shaw; grandchildren, James Walker, Roxanne Walker and Lacie Hendershot all of North Carolina; two great grandchildren, Dominique and Chaselee; and his brother, Brian Shaw of Salinas.

Friends and family are invited to attend a funeral service on Thursday, Jan. 31, at 7 p.m. at Graham-Hitch Mortuary, 4167 First St., Pleasanton. Burial with military honors will take place at a later date at Sacramento Valley National Cemetery.
