Margaret P. Bowers

Lab retiree Margaret P. Bowers, a resident of Pleasanton, died July 19. She was 89.

Born Aug. 15, 1921, in Rock Springs, Wyo., she moved to Los Angeles in the late 1940s where she earned her degree from Woodbury College. During that time, she met and married her husband Donald Bowers.

The family moved to Pleasanton in 1963. Bowers worked for the Laboratory for 23 years. After retirement she lived in Shingletown, Calif., for 14 years where she enjoyed tending to her colorful garden. She also volunteered in fundraising efforts for the Shingletown Library.

She returned to Pleasanton in 2002.

Bowers was active in the Wednesday meditation group in Livermore, which was a constant source of joy and friendship.

She was passionate about animals and was a frequent contributor to D.E.L.T.A. Animal Rescue and the Humane Society.

She is survived by her son, Michael Bowers; daughters, Cathy Adams and Jean Barthelem; grandchildren, Gabrielle Bowers, Austin Bowers, Jeff Greathouse, Matt Barthelemy, Dan Barthelemy, Lynn Palmer and Wayne Barthelemy; and four great grandchildren.

Services were conducted July 26.

Donations may be made in Bowers’ name to a favorite animal charity.
