L. Arthur Groth

L. Arthur Groth, a Lab retiree, died Oct. 12 at Sky Lakes Medical Center in Klamath Falls, Ore. He was 75.

Born March 21, 1934, in North Dakota, he attended the Kearney and Trecker machinist apprenticeship program in Wisconsin in his early 20s and relocated to Livermore in 1964 to work for LLNL as a journeyman machinist.

He lived the majority of his life in Livermore, becoming an accomplished machinist and then subsequently working in machine tool sales. He also was an active member of the Livermore Elks Lodge.

Groth and his wife of 53 years, Sue, retired to Klamath Falls in 2001, where he remained active in Elks and also joined the Sons of Norway and the Woodcrafters Guild.

He is survived by his wife, Sue Groth of Klamath Falls; son, Curt Groth and daughter-in-law, Cathy Groth of Livermore; son, Jeffrey Groth and daughter-in-law, Marianne Groth of Modesto; and daughter, Carolyn Wolf of Livermore; five grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a brother, Virgil Groth of Tacoma, Wash., and sister, DeLois Cramer of Santa Barbara, Calif.

A memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church, Klamath Falls, on Saturday, Oct. 24.
