Kenneth Leon Mueller

Kenneth Leon Mueller, a long-time Livermore resident, died June 22, at Heather's Care Home in Fremont from complications of diabetes and kidney disease. He was 59.

The son of Carol and Norman Mueller, he was an inspiration to all that knew him. Although developmentally disabled from birth, nothing slowed him down. He graduated from Granada High School in 1973 and worked at the Lab for 26 years as a bicycle technician and custodian. He retired five years ago.

Always on the go, Mueller mastered the public transportation system, enabling him to attend every baseball, football, hockey, basketball, movie, car show and concert he could find. He was friendly and ready to share a story or lend a hand.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Carol Mueller.

He is survived by his father, Norman; sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and John Akins; nieces, Kathy Garth of Montana and Samantha Akins of Washington, D.C.; nephew, Jonathan; and niece-in-law, Deena Akins; grandnieces and nephews, Nicholas, Daniel and Katie Mottin, Gabriel and Jessica Akins; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A mass of Christian burial was held June 28, followed by burial at St. Michaels Cemetery.

Donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or The Arc of Alameda County, supporting people with developmental disabilities.
