Kenneth C. Bailey

Kenneth C. Bailey, a longtime Livermore resident, died Sept. 17 after a short battle with cancer. He was 78.

Born June 16, 1933 at East Oakland hospital, he resided in the Bay Area all his life.

Bailey served as a paratrooper in the U.S. Army during the Korean conflict. He also was one of the first to serve as a reserve police officer for the Livermore Police Department.

Bailey was a local cattle-rancher, running cattle on the home ranch on Doolan Road. He also spent many years working in construction as well as in the shipping department of LLNL.

He enjoyed team-roping at local arenas and rodeos and was a former director of the Livermore Rodeo Association. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, traveling in his RV throughout the United States and Canada, and spending time with his family.

Bailey was preceded in death by his parents Art and Charlotte Bailey, brothers Ron and Mel Bailey, and son-in-law Jim Maita.

He is survived by his wife Marian, his daughters Laurie Maita of Livermore, and Linda Null of Boise Idaho; grandchildren Ryan Maniz, Caitlin and Jaime Maita, and Brandon and Jake Null; sisters-in- law Aldine Bailey of Castro Valley, Rose Bailey of Tracy, Barb Mann of Washington, brother-in-law Otto Kendall of Canada, as well as numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.

At his request, no service will be held. Donations may be made in Bailey's memory to the Alameda County Fair, Junior Livestock Auction, or your favorite charity.
