Joseph Ronald Parlagreco

Joseph Ronald Parlagreco, a resident of Livermore, died Aug. 16 in his sleep. He was 82.

Born March 6, 1930, in Utica, N.Y., to the late Frank and Wanda Parlagreco, he was a popular and active student. He played football and basketball, and was a member of many organizations and clubs.

Upon graduating from high school in 1947, he joined the U.S. Marine Corp. and served for five years. He was a combat photographer during the Korean War. He was medically discharged from the Marines in 1952 due to serious wounds he suffered in Korea.

Parlagreco remained in the Bay Area following his recovery at the Naval Hospital in Oakland.

In 1960, he began a 30-year career at the Laboratory working in Computation. During his career, he supported programs and projects at the Lab including B Division, Z Division, NOVA Laser Program, Yucca Mountain Project, Engineering Department and many others.

He will be remembered for his numerous hobbies and interests. He enjoyed making wine, traveling to Hawaii, reading military history, talking stocks and investments, and in later years having his morning cup of coffee with fellow veterans.

He is survived by his sons, Robert Schumacher of Livermore, Joe Parlagreco, of New Jersey; daughters Pam Miller of Arizona, Karen Custer of Texas and Pam Parlagreco of Castro Valley. He also is survived by 13 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren and his sister Patrica Beasley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lila, and his granddaughter, Amy Schumacher.

Parlagreco was a life-long member of the Disabled American Veterans, Fleet Reserve Association and the Elks.

At his request, no formal services will be held. He will be interred with his wife, Lila, at Westminister Memorial Park, in Long Beach, Calif. in the fall.
