Joseph Fabyan

Joseph Fabyan of Rocky Hill, Ky., died Sept. 10 in New Albany, Ind. He was 89.

A native of Denver, Colo., Fabyan was born on March 22, 1924 to John Fabyan and Frances Konty Fassler. He was married for 54 years to the late Louella Fabyan.

Fabyan was a Navy veteran, serving during World War II and the Korean conflict. After being discharged from the service, he moved to Livermore in 1952 and found employment as a mechanical technician with California Research and Development (CR&D), which later became the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He was involved in and present for the atomic tests at Enewetak and Bikini Atoll in the mid 1950s. He was transferred to the Nevada Test Site in 1959 and returned to the Livermore Laboratory in 1961 until his retirement in 1985. In 2003 he moved to Smiths Grove, Ky. to be with his daughter. He was a member of American Legion Post #115 and attended Fairview Baptist Church.

Fabyan was preceded in death by his parents, John Fabyan and Frances Konty Fassler; his wife, Louella Fabyan; and a daughter, Estella Fabyan. He is survived by two daughters, Diana Miller (Skip) and Sandra Fabyan-Booker (Marc) of Smiths Grove, Ky.; two sons, Aldean Fabyan (Kathy) of Livermore, Calif. and Wylie Fabyan, (Liz) of Lathrop, Calif.; four half brothers; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
