Joseph Chmielweski

Joseph Chmielewski, a Lab retiree and Hayward resident, died Aug. 9. He was 91..

Born in Dec. 17, 1920, in Kidder County, N.D. to Anthony and Frances Chmielewski, he served in Europe in World War II with U.S. Army Air Force 8th and 9th Divisions.

After the war, he lived and worked in Bremmerton, Wash. He worked at Catepillar Tractor and then at Friden Calculator. He joined the Lab as a precision machinist in 1957, and retired in 1983.

A life-time member of the NRA, he also was a longtime member of the Horseless Carriage Club of America and involved in several other local organizations.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Anthony and Frances Chmielewski; his wife of 42 years, Evelyn; brothers, Anthony, Edward and Stanley; and sisters, Gladyce and Helen.

He is survived by his brother, Louie; sister, Irene; many nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; and great grand-nieces and nephews.

Visitation was held in San Lorenzo, and burial at Lone Tree Cemetery in Hayward. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be given to a favorite charity.
