John A. Warmouth

John A. Warmouth, also known as “Pappy," died Oct. 21. He was 84.

Warmouth was born in 1929. Above all else, he was a Marine. He enlisted in the Marine Corps when he was under age and was sent home until his mother relented and signed papers allowing him to rejoin. His first assignment was in China, where he liked to brag that he received his high school diploma there. During the Korean War he was with the 1st Marine Division. They fought their way out of the Chosin Reservoir during the winter of 1950. He was wounded in this battle and sent home until permission was granted for him to return to his unit.

After his return to civilian life, he married Vera and had three children. They lived in Livermore, Calif., where he worked for Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. He missed the military life, so he joined the Army Reserve. Over the years he completed Ranger Training, Airborne Class of 1967 and many other assignments.

Warmouth finally retired from the military after 34 years of service and the rank of Command Sergeant Major.

In 1972, he met and married Pat McDougall. In 1993 they moved to Sparks, Nev., where he joined the Marine Corps League, Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Chosen Few.

He is survived by his wife, Pat; and his children John (Sandy), Mark (Susie) and Kathy; two grandchildren; and two great grandchildren.

No services are planned. In lieu of flowers, a donation in his name can be made to the Veterans Guest House at 880 Locust St., Reno, Nev., 89502.
