John Thomas Lane Jr.

John Thomas Lane Jr., a Lab retiree and a resident of San Lorenzo, died Sept. 25 at his home in Nevada. He was 84.

Lane served in both the U.S. Navy and Army and received medals and commendations, including the Purple Heart.

He worked at LLNL as a mechanical technician and coordinator for the Energy Commission until he retired after 32 years.

He was a family man who could fix anything, loved quarter midget racing, auto racing and playing bridge with his friends.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; sister, Lila; brother, Warren; and parents, John T. and Lois.

Lane is survived by his daughter Kathie, granddaughter Karie, grandson, Frank and wife Marlene, great-grandchildren Travis, Kimberly, Tyler, Katie and Lorrie; sisters, Iola of Missouri, Tommie of Florida and Marcia of Michigan; brother, Louis of Florida; great-granddaughter Amanda of Oregon, step- great-grandson, Andrew; nine nephews, five nieces and several great-nieces and nephews.

Services were held Oct. 1 in Hayward.
