John F. Waddell

John F. Waddell, a former resident of Lafayette, died Sept. 6.  He was 93.

Born Oct. 3, 1918, in Duluth Minn., in 1925 he moved with his family to Sacramento where he spent the remainder of his childhood.

After living in Berkeley for a number of years, Waddell and his family moved to Lafayette where he remained for more than 60 years.

He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He attended University of California at Berkeley where he received both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in physics. He performed research in high energy physics at LLNL.

Subsequently, he taught physics for several decades at Saint Mary's College in Moraga Calif.

He was a member of the parish at St. Michael's Orthodox Church in Concord.

He is survived by his three children, J. Patrick, Richard and Catherine; and his step-son, James.

Family and friends are invited to attend funeral services Friday, Sept. 21, at 10 a.m. at the Greek Orthodox Cathedral of the Ascension, 4700 Lincoln Ave., Oakland. Interment will follow at Mt. View Cemetery in Oakland.
