Jim Kapsales

Jim Kapsales died May 16. He was 70.

Kapsales was born in New York City on Dec. 16, 1952. He graduated magna cum laude from Syracuse University in 1974. He utilized his physics degree as a nuclear physicist with the U.S. Navy and Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration. He retired from federal government service in 2003 and continued his work at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. As a physicist working for Weapons and Complex Integration, he conceived, implemented, and conducted courses for the Federal Nuclear Expertise program, aimed at educating the federal workforce on nuclear weapons technology. He retired from LLNL in 2015.

He is survived by Susan Elizabeth, his wife of 34 years.

Honored for his exemplary military service, he will be interred at Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Virginia.
