Jeffrey Alan Oicles

Jeffrey Alan Oicles died March 3 in Escondido, Calif. He was 67.

Oicles completed his undergraduate degree at UCLA and master’s degree at USC in electrical engineering. He worked in aerospace technology for NASA projects and also in the Nova laser program at LLNL. During his 46-year career, he was granted five U.S. patents.

After the fall of the Soviet Union, Oicles was one of the first western entrepreneurs to travel to Russia to work with researchers on joint business opportunities. During his long career, he collaborated with scientists from the UK and France.

For the past 10 years, he built and ran a satellite office in Escondido for Kaiser Systems of Beverly, Mass.

Oicles was a pilot and sailor who loved traveling the world.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Arlene.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy; father, Clyde Oicles; son, Christopher Oicles; granddaughter Charlotte Oicles; daughter, Amy Gosling and husband Ron; step-daughter Elizabeth Tichenor; brother Gerald Oicles; first wife, Ellen; and his sister, Kathleen Abramson and husband Stephan.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, March 27, at Castle Creek Inn, Escondido, Calif.
