Janet M.H. Johnson

Janet Johnson died July 19, after a short struggle with cancer. She was 82.

Born Nov. 16, 1929, in Montclair, N.J., she graduated from Montclair High School in 1947. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Colorado in 1951 and her master's degree from Portland State University in 1970.

Johnson enjoyed reading, horses and her dog, Jimmy.

She started out teaching at Multnomah College, and then taught part time at Portland Community College.

She was a quality assurance auditor in the nuclear field.

She was hired by Wright, Schuchart and Harbor to work on the Trojan Nuclear Plant. She also worked for Washington Public Power Supply System, the Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Peter Kiewit Sons' Inc., Bechtel, Niagara Mohawk, Fenix & Scisson, and Raytheon. In addition, she worked at LLNL and the Department of Energy's Hanford site.

Her last job was on Johnston Atoll in the North Pacific Ocean.

Johnson is survived by two children, Kathy Hamby of Spokane, Wash., and Steve Johnson of Pasco, Wash.; and two grandchildren, Laura Remington and Kara Hamby, both of Spokane.

She was preceded in death by her son, Eric Johnson.

A private service will be held.
