Janet M. Alves

Janet M. Alves died May 20 at her home in Tracy from cancer. She was 57.

Born Oct. 8, 1953 in Tracy, Tracy had been her home her entire life.

She worked at the Lab for 33 years and also was a partner on the family farm. She was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Luso America, SPRSI (Sociedade Portuguesa Rainha Santa Isabel); and IPFES (Portuguesa da Festa do Espirito Santo).

Alves graduated from Tracy High School and from Delta College with an associate's degree in business.

She was a world traveler before and after being diagnosed with cancer. She visited every continent and did not let cancer stop her from traveling. After being diagnosed, she traveled to China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Mediterranean, Black Sea, Iceland, Arctic Circle and more. She also enjoyed ballroom dancing and belonged to Country Swingers.

She is survived by her mother Mary Alves of Tracy; her siblings, Edward Alves and his wife Nancy of Tracy; and Diana Alves of Tracy; her nieces and nephew; Brandi Alger and her husband Ethan of Tracy; Lisa Alves of Tracy and Eddie Alves of Manteca. She also is survived by numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her father, Tony Alves.

Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 25, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Fry Memorial Chapel, 550 S. Central Ave., Tracy.

A rosary will be held on Thursday, May 26, at 10 a.m. at Fry Memorial Chapel followed by a mass at 11:30 a.m. at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, 163 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy. She will be buried at the Tracy Public Cemetery.
