James Sherman Desper

James Sherman Desper of Livermore died Nov. 1. He was 64.

Desper was born Aug. 1, 1949, to Joann and Sherman Desper in Los Angeles, Calif.

Desper worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory for 33 years. He supported Plant Engineering custodial services and later moved to work for the Hammermill. He retired in 2008.

Beloved husband, father, papa, son, brother, uncle and friend lost his battle with pancreatic cancer just three months after diagnosis and died at home with his family by his side.

Desper was preceded in death by his father, Sherman Desper. He is survived by his mother, Joann Desper; wife, Cheryl Desper; sisters, Judy Moore and Julie Chalmers; brother, John Desper; four daughters, Athena Wilder, April Beam, Alexis Broxterman, Alicia Desper; and nine grandchildren, Alexandria, Harleigh, Katherine, Aiden, Analynn, Drew, Kade Jr., Chloe and Violet; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Nov. 9, at 1 p.m. at 3265 Laughlin Road in Livermore.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made by logging onto Purplestride and making a donation to team 4 Purple Pan Can Eaters in honor of Jim Desper.
