James Richard Mann

James (Jim) Mann, a retiree who had worked as a machinist at the Lab for 32 years, died March 25. He was 79.

A resident of Manteca, Mann was born May 21, 1929.

He retired from the Lab in 1993. He belonged to the Livermore Sons in Retirement (SIRS), the Tracy Elks and the Livermore VFW.

Mann enjoyed water skiing, traveling in his motor home with his wife and making yearly trips to Arizona to play pool with his friends. He also played pool at the Manteca Senior Center.

He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Jan; son Mike and his wife Margaret of Livermore, step-daughter Debbie and her husband Jim Connelly of Dayton, Ore., daughter-in-law Laurene Mann of Livermore, grandchildren Derek and his wife Stacee Connelly of Kennewick, Wash., Nichole Connelly of Portland, Ore., Shawndel and Austen Mann of Livermore, and great grandchild Mykah Connelly of Kennewick, Wash. He was preceeded in death by his son, Jimmy Mann, in 2003.

Services will be held at the United Lutheran Church, 649 Northgate Dr., Manteca, today (April 3) at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association, The Cancer Society or a charity of choice.
